Actual group shot for this month! |
A brief recap
For those who have not seen the introduction thread (which can be found here), the goal of this Tale is for me and Firestorm Falcon to clear our backlogs of unpainted Dystopian Wars miniatures. I have pledged to paint 400 points a month for the next 6 months (with 1 "joker" month allowed if I miss my target) to clear that backlog. The tale started at the beginning of November, which means that we are now at the end of month 3.
The month 3 pledge
For my third month I pledged to paint:
- 1 Asgard Class Heavy Fleet Carrier (plus its 6 assault boats) - 205 points
- 6 Wachter Class Escorts (3 Prussian, 3 Danish) - 120 points
- 13 Danish SAS tokens and trays - 65 points
Despite this month containing a lot of potentially irritating models (lots of tokens, small ships and a huge centrepiece model) I enjoyed painting this month a lot. This may be because I drove myself insane repeatedly layering increasingly light shades of grey over the Asgard carrier, only to then paint triangles of dark grey over my hours of work.
Looking over where I've got to so far, I feel I've broken the back of a lot of my painting backlog - I'm very happy with how the last 3 months have gone, and having this tale has been a very good motivational tool to make me paint things.
Right, onto the photos!
A massive model, the Asgard Heavy Battle Carrier is a wonderful centrepiece for a Danish fleet |
There's even more detail hidden under the deck, so I've left the flight deck unglued to keep it visible. |
The Asgard is accompanied by 6 Tyr class Assaut Boats - tiny vessels full of angry Danish boarding troops |
Spot the difference! |
Although Prussian ships originally, Wachters can be taken by the Kingdom of Denmark as well. |
So. Many. Tiny. Flyers. |
The pledge for month 4
Next month, I am asking myself a simple question - HOW DO I STILL HAVE SAS TOKENS TO PAINT? I also need to try and find a colour scheme for my Danish airships - I'm not sure whether to go for a subtle variation on the naval scheme, or to go for something entirely different.
Look for the next post at the start of March. I may also try to post some other updates on this blog this month, as I realise this blog has been almost exclusively this tale for a while now. Once I work through the 100 or so photos I took of the game, there may even be a battle report!
Comments and criticism very welcome. Thanks for looking1
